Respect and Communication Go Hand in Hand
By the Students of STEM at the HACTC
Going to the Hartford Area Career and Technology Center (HACTC) has been one of the best opportunities that we have ever been given. It’s one of the only places that we feel completely safe to learn, can ask questions and make mistakes without worrying about being embarrassed for any reason. Our education, as well as the education of many of our peers is not limited to the curriculum but also to many core values and skills that we will be able to carry on throughout our lives and our working careers in the near future. One of the most important ones that we have internalized thus far is Respect.
It is absolutely critical to a successful career as an Engineer, no matter what specialization, to communicate with each other. This year has taught us all too well already that respect and communication go hand in hand with each other. Both the degree of communication that you emanate and your reception to said communication reflect your current ability to respect, and the same thing goes the other way around. Your ability and willingness to respect other people and their ideas practically dictates the thoroughness of your communication with other people. The mutual respect that goes through our program and the veins of the HACTC makes a successful learning experience.
The STEM program and our overall experience at the HACTC has led us to the realization that what really makes this school special is the unique balance of values in our community, and that makes it such a great place to be and learn. You can’t find it anywhere else. There is hardly ever a day that we don’t look forward to going there and we know with absolute certainty that we are not the only ones.
